Stockton Splits Pair of Five-Setters

Haverford, Pa. – Stockton University (2-1) split a pair of five-set matches on the second day of the Haverford Invitational. The Ospreys prevailed 3-2 over Haverford but then fell 3-2 to Lebanon Valley. Nicole Palmer (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) totaled 28 kills and 35 digs on the day.
 
Palmer was named MVP of the tournament and was joined by Kate Louer (Clifton/Clifton) on the All-Tournament Team. Louer spiked 29 kills in Saturday's two matches. The junior paced Stockton with a match-high 16 kills in the win over Haverford.
 
Palmer contributed 15 kills and a career-high 23 digs while Rileigh Wilson (Milton, Del./Cape Henlopen) added 11 kills. Kristen Burton (Millersville, Md./Archbishop Spalding) dealt a career-high 27 assists and Regan Mendick (Newark Del./Red Lion Christian) tallied 25 assists.
 
Teleyah Witherspoon (Hackensack/Hackensack) notched a match-high six blocks against the Fords and became the 10th player in Stockton history to reach 300 career blocks.
 
After dropping the first set 25-17, the Ospreys won the next two by identical 25-20 scores. Haverford took the fourth frame 25-22, but Stockton raced out to a 10-3 lead and won the fifth set 15-8 behind four kills from Palmer and two aces by Burton.
 
Palmer led the Ospreys with 13 kills and 12 digs against Lebanon Valley as Stockton played its third straight five-setter to open the season. Louer added nine kills while Burton and Mendick dished 17 and 16 assists respectively.
 
Stockton dominated the opening set 25-11 before dropping the next two 25-20 and 25-17. The Ospreys extended the match by taking the fourth set 25-17. The fifth set was close, with Stockton trailing 10-9 until Lebanon Valley scored five of the next six points to down the Ospreys 15-10.
 
Stockton has a week off before heading to Maryland for a tri-match at Washington College next Saturday, September 7. The Ospreys will play Neumann University at 1:00 p.m. and Washington College at 3:00 p.m.
