Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (5-1) played its home opener for the 2024 season and swept Ursinus (3-2) 3-0 for its third straight victory. All three wins have been sweeps. The set scores were 25-20,25-22, 25-19 in favor of the Ospreys over the Bears.
Nicole Palmer (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) led Stockton with match highs of 12 kills and five blocks and also added nine assists and four digs.
Kate Louer (Clifton/Clifton) spiked six kills for the Ospreys.
Regan Mendick (Newark, Del./Red Lion Christian) dished a match-high 19 assists and tallied eight digs.
McKenna Ritchie (Newark, Del./Newark Charter) led all players with 12 digs in the match.
Jaylah Rolle (Williamstown/Williamstown) and
Teleyah Witherspoon (Hackensack/Hackensack) recorded four blocks apiece, joining Palmer in playing excellent defense at the net.
In the first set, Stockton saw a 22-16 lead cut to 22-20 before reeling off three straight points for the win. Palmer led the offense with four kills. The Ospreys trailed 21-19 in the second frame before closing with a 6-1 run to prevail 25-22. Palmer again was the top hitter with three kills.
Stockton slipped behind 15-13 in the third set but then exploded for a 12-4 run that sealed the match, 25-19. Palmer and Louer smacked five kills apiece and the Ospreys posted a .312 hitting percentage in the final stanza.
Mel Eglinton paced Ursinus with eight kills and six digs followed by Caroline Sherman with five kills. Rachel Bernard and Erin Dychdala dealt 11 and 10 assists respectively.
Stockton will continue its three-match homestand at The Sports Center by hosting Swarthmore on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
