Stockton Outlasts Swarthmore 3-2

Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (6-1) won the fourth and fifth sets to edge Swarthmore (2-3) 3-2 and extend their winning streak to four matches. The Ospreys played their fourth five-set match in the first seven contests of the season.
 
Nicole Palmer (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) led Stockton with a dominant performance in which she tallied career highs of 24 kills and 18 assists to go with a .396 hitting percentage, nine digs and three aces. Kate Louer (Clifton/Clifton) spiked 13 kills for the Ospreys.
 
McKenna Ritchie (Newark, Del./Newark Charter) scooped a match-high 19 digs and Regan Mendick (Newark, Del./Red Lion Christian) produced a double-double of 30 assists and 10 digs. Ashley Carkhuff (Hackettstown/Hackettstown) chipped in with 10 digs and eight kills.
 
Stockton trailed 2-1 after dropping the third set 25-18 and fell behind 22-21 in the fourth frame. Kills by Palmer and Carkhuff highlighted a 4-1 run that extended the match with a 25-23 Stockton triumph. Palmer and Carkhuff smacked five and four kills respectively in the fourth set.
 
In the fifth stanza, Stockton pulled away with a 5-1 run that featured three kills by Louer. The spurt brought the Ospreys to match point at 14-9 and they eventually clinched the match 14-11 on a kill by Palmer.
 
Swarthmore jumped on Stockton 25-19 in the first set but the Ospreys evened the match by taking the second set 25-18 behind six kills by Palmer. The Garnet took the third frame 25-20 before Stockton captured the final two sets.
 
Alexia Enache and Izzy Adam paced Swarthmore with 17 and 16 kills respectively. Enache also added 10 digs. Emily Sun totaled 38 assists, 16 digs and five aces for the Garnet.
 
Stockton will have a week off before hosting Drew University next Thursday, September 19 at 7:00 p.m.
