Stockton Downed by Washington College

Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (1-5) tried to rally from an early three-goal deficit but came up short in a 4-2 setback to Washington College (Md.) (3-3). The Ospreys got within one late in the third quarter, however they were unable to come all the way back.
 
Kirsten Bailey (Burlington Twp./Burlington Twp.) scored both goals for the Ospreys after Washington broke out to a 3-0 lead in the first 22:35 of the game. Following the third marker, Stockton generated four consecutive penalty corners and cashed in on the last one.
 
Bailey received the insert from Carlee Thompson (Gibbsboro/Eastern Regional) and blasted a shot into the short side to get the Ospreys on the board at 3-1. The goal came just 54 seconds after the deficit reached three.
 
Stockton continued to chip away in the second half and Bailey netted her second goal of the night and team-leading third of the season on a penalty stroke with 3:45 left in the third quarter to make it a 3-2 game.
 
Stockton pressed for the tying goal with six shots in the fourth period, but could not get one past goaltender Charlotte Schurman, who made four saves in the stanza including one on a penalty stroke to preserve the lead. The Shorewomen added a late tally with 3:05 remaining for the 4-2 final score.
 
Two Stockton goalies split time, with starter Erika Roura (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) making one save in the first half followed by Jordan Czaczkowski (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) with two stops in the second half.
 
Schurman made 10 saves for Washington College. MaryCate Anson scored two goals and Kat Esposito added a goal and an assist.
 
Stockton will be home again on Saturday for a matchup with Alvernia University at 2:00 p.m.
