Stockton Edges Alvernia 3-2

Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (2-5) scored twice in the pivotal third quarter and edged Alvernia University (4-3) by a 3-2 score on Saturday afternoon. The game was the sixth consecutive meeting between the teams that was decided by one goal.

Kiera Lyons (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) scored two goals for the Ospreys, including the game-winner. Lyons gave Stockton a quick 1-0 lead with her first marker just 3:53 into the contest. Carlee Thompson (Gibbsboro/Eastern Regional) assisted on the tally.

Alvernia tied the score seven minutes later and the 1-1 deadlock remained into the third period. Transfer Olivia Catalano (Cinnaminson/Cinnaminson) scored against her former team with a nifty tip-in of a pass by Ameera Bilgrami (Voorhees/Eastern Regional) for another Stockton lead at 2-1.

The Golden Wolves answered just two minutes later to knot the game again at 2-2. The Ospreys needed only 33 seconds to take the lead for good. Following a penalty corner, Lyons netted her second goal of the day to put Stockton in front for the third time at 3-2.

The Ospreys protected the lead the rest of the way, including successfully defending two Alvernia penalty corners in the final minute to seal the 3-2 triumph. Stockton goaltender Erika Roura (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) earned the win with five saves.

Abbie Buck and Caroline Martin each scored a goal for Alvernia. Goalie Lexi Boettcher made six saves for the Golden Wolves.

Stockton's next three games will be on the road, starting with a matchup at Widener University on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
