Lynchburg, Va. – Stockton University (1-3) traveled south to Virginia but fell 4-1 to University of Lynchburg (3-0), which is ranked 13th in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll. The game was Stockton's second against a ranked opponent in the first nine days of the season.
Sophomore back
Kaelin Drey (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) scored her first career goal on a penalty stroke in the third quarter. Drey also registered a defensive save, as did teammate
Makayla Alessi (Manahawkin/Southern Regional).
Stockton goaltender
Erika Roura (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) tied her career high with 12 saves. The shots on goal were 18-5 in favor of Lynchburg, with
Kiera Lyons (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) launching two shots on goal for the Ospreys.
Lynchburg netted one goal in each quarter, led by Danielle Coon with two tallies for the home team. Just 1:10 after the Hornets made it 3-0 in the third period, Stockton earned a penalty stroke and Drey fired a low shot into the right corner for her first career marker.
Stockton will have a week off before playing on the road at the University of Scranton next Saturday, September 14 at 1:00 p.m.
