Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (14-5, 9-3 NJAC) went up by double digits in the final minute of the first half and then dominated the second half for a convincing 85-57 victory over The College of New Jersey (14-5, 7-5 NJAC). Three-point shooting was key, with the Ospreys hitting at 51.9% (14-27) while the Lions went just 6-37 (16.2%).
EJ Matthews-Spratley (Cherry Hill/CH East) surpassed the 30-point mark for the fourth time this season with a game-high 31 markers. Matthews-Spratley went 7-14 (50%) from outside the arc and tied for game-high honors with nine rebounds.
Freshman
Logan Mckee (Glen Mills, Pa./Phelps School) returned after missing nearly a month due to injury and scored 12 points on 5-7 shooting (71.4%).
Michael Evans (Sicklerville/Doane Academy) came off the bench late in the game and went 3-3 from three-point range, tying his career high with 10 points.
Christian Armstrong-Thomas (Marlton/Cherokee) grabbed nine rebounds and contributed seven points while
Jahmir Payoute (Irvington/Snyder) contributed eight boards to Stockton's whopping 54-38 advantage on the glass.
Devon Johnson (Pine Hill/Overbrook) scored five points and
Josh Randall (Williamstown/GCIT) added four as Stockton closed the first half with a 14-4 run for a 33-22 lead at halftime. Matthews-Spratley led all players with 15 first-half points.
Three-pointers by Matthews-Spratley and Mckee helped boost the lead to 41-24 early in the second half. TCNJ closed the gap to seven, but two more threes by Matthews-Spratley and another from Mckee highlighted an 11-0 run that made it 53-35 with 14:07 remaining.
The Ospreys continued to score, leading by at least 16 for the rest of the game and pulling away late behind Evans, who poured in 10 points in the last 2:16 of the 85-57 triumph.
Nick Koch paced TCNJ with 17 points followed by Jonathan Okocha with 12 markers.
Stockton will be home again on Saturday to face Rutgers-Newark at 1:00 p.m.
