Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (7-7, 1-1 NJAC) evened its overall record and earned its first conference victory of the season with a 4-1 win over Montclair State (4-8, 2-1 NJAC).
Riley DeMarco (Hammonton/Cedar Creek) led the Ospreys with two goals.
Stockton opened on the attacking end quickly, with their first corner of the game being in the third minute,
Carlee Thompson (Gibbsboro/Eastern Regional) took a shot off the corner with a deflection hitting off the post.
Stockton was able to hit the back of the net in the 12th minute by
EB Rafferty (Morrisville, Pa./Pennsbury) on a rebound off a shot by
Kirsten Bailey (Burlington Twp./Burlington Twp).
Montclair hit back with three corners within the first two minutes of the second quarter, which led to a save by
Erika Roura (Mt. Laurel/Lenape). The second period for both sides was impressive as Stockton grabbed six shots and Montclair had two. They were aggressive on the penalty corners as well with Stockton leading 5-4.
In the third period, DeMarco put the Ospreys up 2-0, with her fourth goal of the season with an assist by
Maura Somers (Berlin/Eastern Regional). Five minutes later,
Makayla Alessi (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) put away her fifth goal of the year, with an assist by Bailey.
The 3-0 lead was quickly met by a Montclair goal with two minutes left in the period by freshman Coleen McGavin with her first career goal.
In the fourth period, DeMarco hit the back of the net with her second goal of the game, helped by Bailey's second assist of the game.
Roura finished with four saves for Stockton. Montclair goalie Sydney White put an impressive performance in goal, answering Stockton's 18 shots on goal with 14 saves, however the Ospreys were able to get a 4-1 victory at home.
Stockton will be home again on Tuesday versus Marywood University at home for a 4:00 p.m. start.
