Stockton Runs Past Roadrunners 4-1

Mahwah, NJ – Stockton University (9-7, 2-1 NJAC) scored three times in the final seven minutes to sprint past Ramapo College (3-9, 0-3 NJAC) 4-1 on Saturday night. Carlee Thompson (Gibbsboro/Eastern) led the way for the Ospreys with a goal and two assists for the game.

Stockton wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. At the 2:01 mark, freshman Melany Mosier (Berlin/Eastern Regional) tallied her first career goal for a 1-0 lead. Thompson inserted a penalty corner to freshman Meghan Phillips (Somers Point/Holy Spirit), who found Mosier, who potted her first collegiate marker.

That would be the only goal through the half as Stockton dominated the opportunities, outshooting the Roadrunners 12- 3 during the first 30 minutes but could only net the lone goal.

Stockton again dominated the third quarter with a 13-0 shot advantage but came away empty entering the final stanza. The Roadrunners' Kelly Zeman took a pass from Ana Plaia and hit the back of the cage to knot the game at 1-1 1:38 into the fourth quarter.

The Ospreys took over after that with the final trio of markers. Starting at 53:32, Kirsten Bailey (Burlington Twp./Burlington Twp.) blasted her eighth goal of the season with an assist from Thompson off a penalty corner.

1:41 later, Thompson scored on a penalty stroke, before Jessica Bruther (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) finished off the 4-1 win with 1:34 to play in regulation on an assist from Olivia Catalano (Cinnaminson/Cinnaminson). Stockton held a massive 33-5 shot advantage in the game with 13 on net.

Goalkeeper Erika Roura (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) made three saves in earning the win and giving Stockton their third straight victory. Roadrunners netminder Emily Getz kicked out nine Osprey attempts.

Stockton will return home to face The College of New Jersey on Wednesday afternoon at 5 pm. The Lions are ranked #21 nationally by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA).
