Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (10-4-3, 5-1-1 NJAC) posted their second straight shutout with a 2-0 victory over Rutgers-Newark (7-8-2, 1-5-1 NJAC) on a chilly Wednesday night.
Ernst Louisius (Asbury Park/Neptune) and
Thomas Trimble (Emerson/Emerson) tallied the markers for the Ospreys.
Â
Louisius broke into the scoring column at 9:59 when he took a feed from
Kieran Sundermann (Little Egg Harbor/Pinelands) and tapped in his team leading 10th goal of the season for the 1-0 lead.
The home team dominated the play during the first half, firing off 13 shots to just four for the Scarlet Raiders. Four of the attempts were on net with a pair of defensive saves that kept Stockton at bay.
Â
Stockton kept the pressure on until the 71st minute when Trimble was sent in by
Uche Wokocha (Galloway/St. Augustine Prep). His blast into the upper 90 gave Stockton an insurance tally that would end up being the final score.
Â
Kyle Birmingham (Budd Lake/Mt. Olive) posted his second straight whitewash, making three stops in gaining the win. Birmingham stretched his scoreless streak to 182:21 in net.
Â
Stockton will travel to Montclair, NJ on Saturday night for a key showdown against Montclair State. Both teams are tied for first place in the NJAC at 5-1-1. The match is scheduled for 7 pm.
