Stockton Downs Washington College 57-48

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (3-0) used a balanced scoring attack to stay unbeaten with a 57-48 victory over Washington College (MD (2-4) on Wednesday afternoon. Imene Fathi (Wildwood/Wildwood) led the Ospreys with 14 points, as six players scored six or more markers for Stockton.
 
The Shorewomen took an early lead until Stockton pulled even at 7-7 with 2:31 left in the first period. Haleigh Schafer (Egg Harbor City/Absegami) and Fathi scored the final five points of the quarter to give the home team a 12-10 lead that they would not relinquish.
 
Then Ospreys took control in the second frame, hitting 6-13 from the field. including four of five from beyond the arc for a 28-20 lead at the break. A pair of threes by Madisyn McNair (Hackensack/Hackensack) and one each from Bre Evans (Neptune/Neptune) and Grace Speer (Estell Manor/ACIT), propelled the Ospreys as they outscored the visitors 16-10 in the period.
 
Stockton kept up the pressure in the third, leading by as many as 13 points with 4:25 left, until Washington College made a run. An 8-1 run sliced the margin to 44-39 after three quarters setting up the final frame.
 
Another three ball from Evans, a layup from Fathi and four points from Speer pushed the margin back to 54-43 with 4:31 to go in regulation. The visitors knocked it down to 54-48 at the 1:22 mark, before a beautiful assist by Fathi to Lauren Winant (Middletown/Middletown South) for a layup and a free throw by Schafer sealed the game at 57-48.
 
Evans scored 10 points to back up Fathi, who had four steals and three assists, with Speer registering nine markers. Schafer tallied seven points and a game-high six steals, with McNair and Ayonna Alexander (Sicklerville/Winslow Twp.) each scoring six points, Alexander pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
 
Stockton's defense was outstanding forcing 27 turnovers that led to 23 points, while shooting 8-16 (50.0%) from behind the arc.
 
Washington College was led by Kaitlyn Boggs who tallied game-highs of 15 points and eight rebounds. Abby Meredith and Taylor Shane added 10 points each. Emma Robinson dished a game-high five assists.
 
Stockton will take to the road to face FDU-Florham in Madison, NJ on Saturday for their next game. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 pm.
