Reading, Pa. – Stockton University (4-5) returned to action after a Christmas break with a game at the Albright College Double Tree Holiday Tournament in which The Ospreys were outscored by John Carroll University (Ohio) (9-2) 106-81. Stockton reached the 80-point mark for the fourth time in the last five games.
Justin Harper (Bridgeton/Wildwood Catholic) led four Ospreys in double figures with 15 points and also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
Devon Johnson (Pine Hill/Overbrook) totaled 11 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Eriq Campbell (West Atco/Lindenwold) scored 10 points and
Anthony Trombetta (Cape May CH/Middle Twp.) netted a career-high 10 markers as well. Eleven of the 12 Stockton players who saw action in the game scored points.
Stockton was within 25-23 after two free throws by Johnson, however the Ospreys were outscored 29-13 in the last eight minutes of the half and trailed 54-36 at the break. Johnson led the team with nine first-half points followed by Harper and
Tayvon Gaither (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) with seven apiece.
Although Stockton shot 48.5% from the field and scored 45 points in the second half, the Ospreys were unable to trim the margin under 16, and they suffered the 106-81 setback. Trombetta tallied all 10 of his points in the second half and Harper contributed eight.
Stockton will play tournament-host Albright College tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. in the consolation game of the Albright Double Tree Holiday Tournament.
