Reading, Pa. – Stockton University (5-5) won the consolation game of the Albright College Double Tree Holiday Tournament 102-94 over Albright (4-7). The win was Stockton's second victory of the season in OT, with both coming in the last five games.
Five Ospreys scored in double figures led by
Justin Harper (Bridgeton/Wildwood Catholic) with a double-double of 19 points and 13 rebounds, both of which were career highs. Harper later was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Eriq Campbell (West Atco/Lindenwold) followed with 20 points and eight boards.
Charlie Bell (Miami, Fla./Florida Christian) contributed a career-high 15 markers, including the game-tying basket at the buzzer, and
Devon Johnson (Pine Hill/Overbrook) scored 13 points.
Andrew Crawford (Haddon Hts./Camden Catholic) compiled 10 points, seven rebounds, a team-high four assists and two steals.
After Albright took an 87-85 lead on two free throws with five seconds left, Bell received the inbounds pass near midcourt, raced up the floor and sank a baseline jumper as time expired to force overtime at 87-87.
Campbell then scored the first four points of OT to stake Stockton to a 91-87 advantage, and the Ospreys stayed in front from there. Stockton went 5-6 at the line in the last 33 seconds, including 3-4 by Bell, to seal the 102-94 triumph.
Stockton trailed 48-43 at the of a first half in which the Ospreys outscored Albright 20-4 in the paint but saw the Lions sink 12 three-pointers. Campbell scored 12 points followed by Johnson with 10. Harper and Crawford each tallied eight markers.
The second half featured a whopping 22 lead changes and no margin greater than five points as the teams traded blows. Stockton led 85-82 after two free throws by Harper with 53 seconds left but saw the home team reel off five straight counters for an 87-85 score before Bell's buzzer-beater forced overtime.
Harper led the Ospreys with 11 second-half points while Bell added 10. Bell then tossed in a team-high five of Stockton's 15 points in OT to spark the Ospreys to the 102-94 triumph.
Qadir Mitchell paced Albright with a game-high 26 points followed by Justin Turner and Joey Callahan with 15 and 13 points respectively.
Stockton will host the Stockton Classic on January 2-3, starting with the Ospreys versus Widener at 3:00 p.m. on Friday and then Rowan against Christopher Newport at 5:00 p.m.
