Wayne, N.J. – Stockton University (3-3, 2-1 NJAC) outlasted William Paterson (4-4, 0-3 NJAC) 83-76 in overtime for its second straight win and third in the last four games. The Ospreys rallied from an 11-point deficit in the second half.
Four Ospreys scored in double figures, led by
Justin Harper (Bridgeton/Wildwood Catholic) with a career-high 20 points.
Eriq Campbell (West Atco/Lindenwold) and
Tayvon Gaither (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) netted 15 markers apiece.
Logan Mckee (Glen Mills, Pa./Phelps School) recorded his second double-double of the year with 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Mckee led Stockton to a dominant 48-33 advantage on the boards, followed by
Andrew Crawford (Haddon Hts./Camden Catholic) with a career-high eight caroms and Campbell with seven rebounds.
Stockton outscored WPU 28-10 at the free throw line and forced 22 turnovers, including 17 steals. Crawford led the defensive effort with five steals.
Stockton trailed 39-28 with 2:25 gone in the second half before scoring 10 straight points to make it 39-38. The Ospreys later pulled ahead 61-57 on a layup by Cambell at 7:26 followed by a dunk from Harper with 6:47 on the clock. The game then was tied four times in the next six minutes.
Gaither gave Stockton a 69-67 lead with a layup at the 35-second mark, but WPU tied it with 16 seconds left and the game went to overtime.
In OT, the score was tied 71-71 and 73-73 before McKee swished a three-pointer with 2:02 on the clock that gave the Ospreys the lead for good at 76-73. Campbell followed with a layup that made it 78-73 with 1:02 left, and Stockton went on to the 83-76 triumph.
Jack Gobel paced William Paterson with a game-high 25 points followed by Fred Orock Jr. and Ty'Shawn Pearson with 17 and 15 points respectively.
Stockton will be on the road again on Wednesday for an NJAC game at New Jersey City at 7:30 p.m.
