2025 Stockton Women's Lacrosse Preview

2/18/2025 10:46:00 AM

The Stockton women's lacrosse team enters the 2025 season with 14 returning letter winners from a squad that set a school record with 14 victories last year. Eight of the returnees played in at least 15 of Stockton's 17 games in 2024, and six of them started at least 12 times.

Head coach Denise Roessler, in her third season at the helm, has a veteran group of 13 players who are juniors (7), seniors (5) or fifth-years (1). The roster has been bolstered by the addition of a few key transfers as well as a large freshman class of 10 rookies.

Defense should be a strength for the Ospreys, who have a pair of returning starters from the team that led the NJAC in ground balls (21.06/game), caused turnovers (12.18/game) and goals against average (7.06) last year. Offensively, Stockton must replace its top three point producers from 2024 and rely of contributions from returnees and newcomers alike.
  • Graduate student Brianna Robinson is the leading scorer among returning players. Robinson finished third on the team with 25 goals and dished four assists for 29 points last year. Senior Margot Costello joins Robinson as a key offensive contributor, coming off an 18-goal campaign in 2024.
  • The return of senior Isabella Marinello to the field should bolster the offense. Marinello played just four games before suffering a season-ending injury last year. In 2023, she finished second in the NJAC in assists (1.35/game), fourth in points (3.82/game) and ninth in goals (2.47/game).
  • Senior Lilly Alessandro is an underrated midfielder who does the little things that lead to team success. Alessandro finished third on the team in ground balls (37) and draw controls (35) while adding 15 caused turnovers and four goals last year. Her 43 career starts are second most on this year's team.
  • Senior Emily Deworsop is a veteran midfielder who started all 17 games and totaled nine goals, four assists, 29 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers last season. Sophomore Madison MacGillivray is back after 10 goals and four assists for 14 points in 16 games played during her rookie year.
  • Fifth-year defender Meghan Pellegrino leads the backline. Last year, Pellegrino became the program leader with 140 career ground balls and finished fourth in the NJAC in ground balls (2.76/game) plus fifth in caused turnovers (1.82/game). This year, she needs just three caused turnovers to become Stockton's career leader.
  • Junior Gina Marotta has been a starter since her arrival at Stockton, starting all 33 games that she has played over the last two years. Marotta, who is especially effective using her speed on clears, recorded 26 ground balls and 18 caused turnovers last season.
  • Transfers Julia Gibson and Ashley Pringle will add experience up front. Pringle totaled 19 points (10 G, 9 A) in 27 career games at Georgian Court. Gibson tallied 18 points (8 G, 10 A) in 22 career games at Palm Beach Atlantic.
  • Talented freshmen Billie Ormsby, Charlotte Ondria, Samantha Parks and Tori Barbara will push for playing time at midfield. Ormsby scored 251 goals at the scholastic level.
  • Sophomores Bella Cote, Isabella Donisi, and Shyanne Nucifora are returnees at attack and joined by freshmen Georgia Keubler, Kayla Dever and Caroline Mueller to add depth at the offensive end.
  • Junior Skylar Falk brings maturity after two years at Rider University, one as a redshirt followed by one game played last year. Freshmen Lynn McLaughlin and Alexa Yonelunas will seek playing time on defense as well.
  • Stockton will be inexperienced in net. Sophomore Jordan Czaczkowski was the backup last year and played just 15 minutes in her rookie season. Freshman Nzingha Smith-Vance could see playing time right away given the lack of a veteran goalkeeper on the roster.
  • Stockton will be without a pair of juniors in Kayla Potochar and Anissa Serafine, who unfortunately are out with injuries this season.
