Stockton Runs Win Streak to Five with 14-11 Victory

Dallas PA – Stockton University (6-1) extended their winning streak to five straight games with a wire-to-wire 14-11 win over Misericordia University (2-4) on Saturday afternoon. Margot Costello (South Brunswick/South Brunswick) led the Ospreys with a career-high four goals and tied her personal best with five points on the day.

The Ospreys jumped out with three goals in the first 4:45 of the contest, with a pair coming from Julia Gibson (Cape May Point/Lower Cape May) sandwiched around an Isabella Marinello (West Caldwell/Caldwell) tally for a 3-0 lead. After a Cougars goal, Ashley Pringle (Barnegat/Barnegat) scored twice with Costello offsetting another home marker for a 6-2 advantage after one quarter.

Gibson and Costello tallied to make it 8-2 before Misericordia sliced the lead in half to make it 8-4 with 6:39 to play before halftime. Madison MacGillivray (Forked River/Lacey Twp.) stopped the run with a marker, but the Cougars answered just before the break to cut it to 9-5 after 30 minutes of play.

Stockton was able to stretch the lead to 12-7 after three periods with Costello scoring twice more and Marinello adding a score to two for the Cougars. Misericordia tried to make a comeback in the final period, outscoring Stockton 4-2 but time expired and the Ospreys came away with the 14-11 win.

Gibson and Marinello scored three goals each in the game, with Gibson adding a pair of assists. Costello also was a force defensively with four ground balls and a career best two caused turnovers.

Gina Marotta (Montville/Montville) continued her outstanding defensive play with six draw controls and two ground balls, while Lilly Alessandro (Jenkintown, Pa./Abington) scooped three draw controls, including the 100th draw control for her career. She becomes the seventh Osprey to achieve that milestone.

Jordan Czaczkowski (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) made four saves in net for Stockton.

For the Cougars, Delaney Campanella scored four times with one assist for five points, with teammate Rachel Shook adding three goals and three helpers for a game-high six points. Goalkeeper Ryann Gross made five saves.

Stockton will return home to face Muhlenberg College on Tuesday afternoon for their next game. The contest is scheduled for 4 pm.
