Bronx, N.Y. – Stockton University (8-6) played its first games in over a week and split a doubleheader with NYU (6-8) on Saturday afternoon. The Ospreys dominated the opener 9-1 but then dropped the nightcap 3-2 on a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh.
In the first game,
Charli Czaczkowski (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) went 2-4 with two doubles, a run and an RBI while
Alexa Panagopoylos (Atco/Hammonton) was 2-4 with a double.
A pair of freshmen were key contributors as well.
Casey Sokol (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) added two hits and two runs.
McKenna George (Centennial, Colo./Eaglecrest) went 2-5 with a double, run and an RBI.
Stockton scored in each of the first four innings.
Emily Spencer (Southampton/Seneca) led off the game with a double and scored the initial run. Czaczkowski and Sokol each tallied a hit and a run in the second frame as the Ospreys extended to 3-0.
In the fourth inning, George ripped an RBI double that brought Sokol home and Stockton tallied two more runs on an error. An RBI double by Czaczkowski highlighted a three-run seventh frame as the Ospreys clinched the 9-1 victory.
Nerina Tramp (Blackwood/Highland) scattered eight hits but allowed just one run with five strikeouts and one walk for her fourth win of the season.
Panagoloylos continued to swing a hot bat in the second game as she went 3-3 with a double and a run scored. Czaczkowski also stayed hot by going 2-3 with a double and two RBI.
The game was scoreless into the third inning when Czaczkowski ripped a two-run double that gave Stockton a 2-0 lead. NYU responded with one run in the bottom half. A pair of errors by the Ospreys in the bottom of the seventh allowed NYU to score two unearned runs and snatch the game 3-2.
Lexi Liquori (Union/Union) pitched well despite the outcome. The sophomore allowed just one earned run on eight hits. Liquori tied her career high with six strikeouts and issued just one walk.
Stockton will host a doubleheader against Penn State Abington on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
