Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (10-6) played just its second home doubleheader of the season and swept Penn State Abington (4-10) 11-3 in six innings and 8-1.
McKenna George (Centennial, Colo./Eaglecrest) led the Ospreys with four hits, four runs and five stolen bases on the day.
Emily Spencer (Southampton/Seneca) went 3-4 with a home run and four RBI while George was 2-4 with a triple, three stolen bases and two runs in the first game.
Alexa Panagopoylos (Atco/Hammonton) added two hits, including a double, and one run.
In the first inning, George scored on a sacrifice fly and Spencer singled home Panagopoylos for a 2-0 lead. George scored again in the third inning and the Ospreys tacked on two runs each in fourth and fifth frames for a 7-0 advantage.
Penn State Abington broke through for three runs in the top of the sixth to make it 7-3 before the Ospreys closed the game in the bottom half. Spencer blasted a three-run homer down the left field line and
Elizabeth Martin (Port Republic/Cedar Creek) walked it off with an RBI single for the 11-3 triumph.
Nerina Tramp (Blackwood/Highland) tied her season high with 10 strikeouts on the way to her fifth pitching victory of the season.
George went 2-4 with a double, two runs and two more stolen bases in the nightcap.
Regan Mendick (Newark, Del./Red Lion Christian) was 2-2 with one run, one RBI and one walk while Panagopoylos added one hit and two RBI.
After Penn State Abington scored in the top of the first, George manufactured a run on her own in the bottom half. The freshman led off with a double, stole third and scored as the throw sailed into left field. RBI singles by Panagopoylos and
Casey Sokol (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) upped the lead to 3-1.
Megan Sears (Oakland/Indian Hills) led off the second stanza with a triple and scored on an RBI single by
Emma Coldsnow (Yorktown, Va./Tabb). Spencer stroked an RBI single and Panagopoylos lofted a sacrifice fly as the lead ballooned to 6-1.
In the sixth inning, George scored on a throwing error and Mendick lofted a sacrifice fly to complete the scoring in the 8-1 victory.
Mia Barone (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) pitched four scoreless innings out of the bullpen for the win. Barone fanned three batters and yielded three hits and a walk. Starter
Lexi Liquori (Union/Union) allowed one run on one hit with four strikeouts and one walk.
Lainey Scotese paced Penn State Abington with four hits, one run and one RBI in the doubleheader. Hailey Gamble was 2-5 with a double and a run for the Nittany Lions.
Stockton will play a doubleheader at Immaculata University on Thursday at 3:00 p.m.
