Salisbury, Md. – Stockton University (5-1) began a six-game trip during spring break by splitting a pair of contests. The Ospreys succumbed to a rally by No. 13-ranked Salisbury (5-1) in the bottom of the seventh for a 4-3 setback. Stockton rebounded with a 8-0 shutout of McDaniel (0-3-1) in five innings.
Charli Czaczkowski (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) went 3-4 with a double and a home run in the morning game against Salisbury.
Madison Manera (Clayton/Clayton) added a double for the Ospreys.
Czaczkowski slugged a solo homer in the fourth inning to break the scoreless tie.
Emily Spencer (Southampton/Seneca) stroked a two-run single in the fifth frame to boost the Stockton lead to 3-0.
The Ospreys took the shutout into the bottom of the seventh, however the Sea Gulls rallied with four runs on three hits, a walk and an error to deal Stockton the 4-3 walk-off defeat. Three of the four Salisbury runs were unearned.
Nerina Tramp (Blackwood/Highland) held the Sea Gulls scoreless through the first six innings, finishing with three runs allowed (two unearned) on six hits with seven strikeouts and three walks.
McKenna George (Centennial, Colo./Eaglecrest) went 2-2 with a triple, run, RBI and stolen base in the win over McDaniel. Spencer and
Emma Coldsnow (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) blasted home runs while Czaczkowski contributed a double, two runs and an RBI.
Alexa Panagopoylos (Atco/Hammonton) chipped in with a hit and two RBI as well.
The Ospreys broke out with three runs on two hits plus an error, a walk and a hit by pitch in the first inning. Spencer led off the second inning with a solo homer to give Stockton a 4-0 lead. Czaczkowski doubled and later scored on a groundout to make it 5-0 after two.
Casey Sokol (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) notched the first of her two RBI with a sacrifice fly that scored George in the third frame. The Ospreys put the game away with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Coldsnow slammed her team-leading fourth homer and Sokol ended the game with an RBI bunt single as Stockton walked it off due to the run rule, 8-0.
Sokol pitched a two-hit shutout with seven strikeouts and three walks for her first career win on the mound.
Stockton will stay in Maryland and play No. 13 Salisbury in a doubleheader tomorrow at noon.
