Winter Haven, Fla. – Stockton University (5-3) won its second straight game in Florida with a resounding 17-5 victory over Western New England (4-2) in seven innings. The Ospreys pounded out 19 hits including five doubles and a home run.
Tony Gatti (Howell/Howell) went 3-4 with two runs and two RBI while
Russell Halvorsen (Howell/Howell) was 2-5 with a double, home run, three RBI and two runs.
Joe Gmitter (Hamilton/Steinert) and
Robbie Ford (Green Twp./Newton) each contributed two hits, two RBI and a run.
Evan Bresnen (Allentown/Steinert) tallied two hits, two runs and an RBI.
Stockton took control right away, scoring seven runs in the top of the first. Ford ripped a two-run double and Gatti added a two-run single in the big inning. The Ospreys tacked on four more runs in the third frame and then Halvorsen lofted a two-run homer in the fourth that made it 13-0.
Freshman
Matthew McCloskey (Cinnaminson/Cinnaminson) collected his first career RBI with a single in the fifth frame and notched his second RBI with a bases-loaded groundout during a three-run sixth inning as Stockton coasted to the 17-5 triumph.
Starting pitcher
Stephen DeMilio (Tuckerton/Pinelands) went five innings, allowing one earned run plus two unearned with six strikeouts for his second win of the season.
Stockton will be back at it tomorrow with games against Loras College (Iowa) at 10:00 a.m. and Husson University (Maine) at 1:15 p.m.
