Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (10-3, 1-1 NJAC) rallied in the second half, but fell to Rowan University (11-1, 2-0) by a 14-11 score in a key NJAC matchup on a chilly Saturday afternoon.
Madison MacGillivray (Forked River/Lacey Twp.) topped the Ospreys with five goals in the game.
Rowan jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead after the first period, with MacGillivray scoring her first in the contest for the lone Stockton marker. The Ospreys took the second frame 2-1 on goals by MacGillivray and
Charlotte Ondria (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) to slice the margin to 6-3 at the break.
Stockton kept up the pressure after halftime with four goals to a pair by the visitors. Two markers by
Isabella Marinello (West Caldwell/James Caldwell) and one each by
Brianna Robinson (Cape May Court House/Middle Twp.) and MacGillivray put the Ospreys down by just one at 8-7 heading to the final frame.
Marinello knotted the game at 8-8 with 13:36 remaining, but Rowan answered with a pair of tallies to re-take the lead for good at 10-8. MacGillivray made it 10-9 but that was close as the home team would come. The Profs scored four of the final six goals in the game over the final 6:53 to seal the 14-11 victory.
Gina Marotta (Montville/Montville) led all players with eight draw controls with
Lilly Alessandro (Jenkintown, PA/Abington) grabbing five draw controls.
Margot Costello topped all players with four caused turnovers and added a goal. Goalkeeper
Jordan Czaczkowski (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) made seven saves in the contest.
For Rowan, Elaina Corson led all players with eight goals, with Fiona Lockhart scoring three times. Netminder Mel Rodgers made six saves in the win.
Stockton will have a week off before traveling to Montclair, NJ next Saturday for their next match against Montclair State University. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 pm.
