Montclair, N.J. – Stockton University (10-4, 1-2 NJAC) came up short in a key conference game on the road on Saturday afternoon, falling 12-7 to Montclair State (8-5, 2-1 NJAC) despite a determined effort from the Stockton offense.
Madison MacGillivray (Forked River/Lacey Twp.) and
Julia Gibson (Cape May Point/Lower Cape May) led the scoring with two goals each, while
Caroline Mueller (Pittstown/North Hunterdon),
Brianna Robinson (Cape May CH/Middle Twp.) and
Isabella Marinello (West Caldwell/Caldwell) each added one.
Stockton trailed just 5-3 after the first quarter and continued to push offensively, putting up 26 shots in total. The Ospreys got within 6-5 on goals by Robinson and Gibson 36 seconds apart in the third quarter, however Montclair reeled off four straight to put the game out of reach.
Stockton goalkeeper
Jordan Czaczkowski (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) made seven saves and
Gina Marotta (Montville/Montville) totaled five draw controls, two caused turnovers and one ground ball.
Despite Stockton's strong offensive effort, the Ospreys couldn't find a way to stop Montclair's Kaeley Sek, who netted five goals to lead the Red Hawks.
The Ospreys will look to bounce back in their next game on April 23 when they host 11th-ranked TCNJ at 5:00 p.m.
