Glassboro, N.J. – Stockton University competed in the Oscar Moore Invitational at Rowan University on a damp, misty Saturday.
Maddy Valasek (Medford/Shawnee) and
Isabella Freda (Verona/Verona) notched victories in the 3000m (10:34.45) and hammer throw (46.72m) respectively.
Valasek won by 21 seconds in a field of 10 runners and also finished seventh out of 60 in the 1500m (4:45.16). Freda topped a group of 19 throwers by just over three meters.
Marlie DiPalma (Hackettstown/Pope John XXIII) was the runner-up in the long jump (5.11m) followed by
Elaina Styer (Estell Manor/Ocean City) in third place (4.90m).
Third-place performances also were produced by
Kayla Sullivan (Manahawkin/Delaware Valley) out of 25 in the 400m (1:0.28),
Evelynn Austin (Sparta/Pope John XXIII) out of 17 in the 5000m (19:10.49) and
Natalie Kroncke (Hasbrouck Hts./Hasbrouck Hts.) out of nine in the 100m hurdles (17.36 seconds). Austin trailed only a pair of Division I runners from Seton Hall.
Kayla Kass (Bayonne/Bayonne) finished fourth in a giant group of 59 runners in the 800 (2:13.50), outdone only by three Division I runners from St. Joseph's.
Jessica Bentley (Forked River/Lacey Twp.) placed fifth out of 29 in the shot put (10.95m).
Stockton will compete in the Widener Invitational on April 18-19.
