Stockton Splits with Swarthmore

Swarthmore, Pa. – Stockton University (20-12) played its last non-conference games of the season and split a doubleheader with Swarthmore College (25-9). In the first game, the Ospreys suffered their fifth walkoff setback of the season, 1-0 in eight innings.

Stockton won the nightcap 5-2 to reach the 20-win mark for the seventh time in Mavreen Hering's eight full seasons as head coach (excluding 2020-21 Covid years).

The teams managed just three hits apiece in the first game. Singles by McKenna George (Centennial, Colo./Eaglecrest), Emily Spencer (Southampton/Seneca) and Charli Czaczkowski (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) accounted for Stockton's trio. George also stole a base.

Nerina Tramp (Blackwood/Highland) and Swarthmore pitcher Lilly Goldberg dueled for seven scoreless innings before the Garnet broke through for an unearned run in the bottom of the eighth to edge the Ospreys 1-0. Tramp pitched a three-hitter with nine strikeouts and moved into second in Stockton history with 419 career whiffs.

Alexa Panagopoylos (Atco/Hammonton) went 2-4 with two RBI, one double and one run in the second game. Caitlin Cetrulo (Caldwell/Caldwell) rapped two hits and added one walk, one stolen base and one run.

Panagopoylos led off the second inning with a double and scored on an RBI double by Megan Sears (Oakland/Indian Hills). The Ospreys broke the game open in the later innings, starting with a two-run double by Regan Mendick (Newark, Del./Red Lion Christian) in the sixth frame.

Panagopoylos stroked a two-run single in the top of the seventh that made it 5-0, and Stockton went on to a 5-2 victory. Starter Mia Barone (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) pitched 4.2 scoreless innings, scattering six hits and fanning two to improve to 5-0 on the season.

Stockton will play an NJAC doubleheader at Ramapo on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
