Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (23-13, 10-6 NJAC) improved its playoff positioning with a home sweep of Kean University (20-18, 10-6 NJAC), 3-2 and 16-1 in five innings. With the wins, the Ospreys gave themselves a chance to finish as high as third in the conference standings.
Emma Coldsnow (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) was the offensive leader with five hits in the doubleheader. Coldsnow went 2-4 and
McKenna George (Centennial, Colo/Eaglecrest) was 2-4 with a run in the first game.
Nerina Tramp (Blackwood/Highland) retired the first 15 batters that she faced while Stockton built a 3-0 lead on RBI singles by
Caitlin Cetrulo (Caldwell/Caldwell) in the first inning, Tramp in the second frame and
Alexa Panagopoylos (Atco/Hammonton) in the third.
Samantha Raymond hit a two-run homer with one out in the top of the seventh, but Tramp retired the next two batters to seal the 3-2 triumph. Tramp hurled a four-hitter with a season-high 12 strikeouts, reaching double figures for the fourth time this season.
Coldsnow went 3-3 with her NJAC-leading eighth home run of the season and four RBI in the second game. Panagopoylos,
Charli Czaczkowski (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) and
Megan Sears (Oakland/Indian Hills) added two hits apiece, with the trio combining for six runs and five RBI as well.
Czaczkowski slugged a two-run double during a lengthy first inning in which the Ospreys exploded for eight runs. Stockton scored five more times in the second frame, including a pinch-hit, two-run single by
Elizabeth Martin (Port Republic/Cedar Creek).
After two runs in the third stanza, Coldsnow hit a solo homer in the fourth and sophomore
Molly Cocco (Florham Park/Hanover Park) came off the bench for her first career hit before the Ospreys closed out the 16-1 victory in the fifth inning.
Mia Barone (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) pitched four scoreless innings, allowing three hits with six strikeouts and no walks for the win.
Stockton will finish the regular season with a NJAC doubleheader at New Jersey City University on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
