Stockton Prevails 12-11 Over UMW in Overtime

Fredericksburg, Va. – Stockton University (9-9) prevailed over Mary Washington (9-8) 12-11 on a goal by Riley Burns (Mullica Hill/Clearview) with one second left in overtime of the CLC Tournament first round game. The No. 5 seed Ospreys advanced to face No. 1 seed Salisbury in the CLC semifinals.

Each team had three possessions in overtime, with the squads both committing turnovers on their first two tries. Ben Blum (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) made a save on Mary Washington's third possession and then Burns potted the game-winner with an assist by Robbie O'Brien (Springfield, Pa./Springfield Delco).

Jack Vandegrift (Jenkintown, Pa./LaSalle College Prep) led Stockton with three goals followed by Connor Albrecht (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) with two goals and an assist. Burns and Gage Parker (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) added two counters apiece.

The Ospreys broke out to a 5-2 lead in the first quarter. Albrecht, one of five different scorers in the period, reached the 100-point mark for his career with a goal. Stockton managed to stay in front, but never by more than three, until late in the fourth quarter.

Albrecht gave the Ospreys an 11-9 lead with 10:37 remaining, but Mary Washington scored at the 7:54 mark and then tied the game with 2:19 on the clock.

Neither team registered a shot in the rest of regulation, and the game went to sudden-death overtime, where Burns tossed in the game-winner to lift Stockton to the 12-11 triumph.

Blum finished with 18 saves, one off his career high, for his 13th consecutive game with a double-digit save total. Camillo Marusco (Swedesboro/Kingsway) contributed defensively with career highs of three caused turnovers and two ground balls.

Tommy Jackson paced Mary Washington with three goals and two assists for five points. Tanner Boone and Dylan Frost each scored twice for the Eagles.

Stockton will play second-ranked, unbeaten Salisbury University in the CLC Tournament semifinals on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
