Union, NJ – Stockton University (7-7, 0-3 CLC) tried to rally late, but came up on the short end of a 15-13 decision to Kean University (10-3, 1-1 CLC) on Saturday evening. Freshman
Jack Vandegrift (Jenkintown, PA/LaSalle College Prep) led the Ospreys with three goals and two assists for a career-high five points.
Stockton fell behind early in the first period 4-2, with Osprey goals coming from
Daniel Amores (West Caldwell/James Caldwell) and
Liam Humphrey (Mt. Laurel/Lenape). The home team stretched the margin to 8-5 at the break, outscoring the Ospreys 4-3 in the frame.
The Ospreys came out hot in the third quarter, taking a 6-3 advantage and knotting the game at 11-11. Freshman
Josh Graham (Garnet Valley, PA/Garnet Valley) scored all three of his markers with Vandegrift potting two and assisting on a
Gage Parker (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown) tally.
The draw was short lived as Kean tallied the first three goals of the final period for a 14-11 lead. Vandegrift, from
Connor Albrecht (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) and Parker from Vandegrift again, sliced the lead to 15-13 with 1:33 left, but the rally fell short as the Cougars held on for the two-goal victory.
Graham and Parker also tallied three goals on the night, as seven different Ospreys scored goals.
Mike Cuzzola (Bridgewater/Bridgwater-Raritan) had his best game of the season winning 16-28 (.571) faceoffs and scooping a career and game-high seven ground balls.
Goalkeeper
Ben Blum (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) made 13 saves in net.
For the Cougars, Nick Thorne led all players with six goals, with teammate Dylan Johnson adding three markers and three assists. Nick Paterno made 15 saves in net for the victory.
Stockton will have a week off until next Saturday, when the Ospreys will face Montclair State University at Montclair for a 12 pm tilt.
