Stockton Opens NJAC Slate with 15-5 Victory

Union, NJ – Stockton University (10-2, 1-0 NJAC) played their first NJAC league game and came away with a 15-5 win over Kean University (2-7, 0-1 NJAC) on Saturday afternoon. Madison MacGillivray (Forked River/Lacey Twp.) led the offense with a career-tying six goals on the day, and helping Stockton run their winning streak to four straight games.
 
The contest started with both teams scoring twice in the first 8:33 before Stockton opened up some breathing room. A goal by Isabella Marinello (West Caldwell/Caldwell) and two by MacGillivray gave the Ospreys a 5-2 lead after one period.
 
Stockton started to pull away in the second frame on tallies by Julia Gibson (Cape May Point/Lower Cape May), MacGillivray and Marinello for a comfortable 8-3 lead at the break. The second half was all Ospreys as they outscored the home team 7-2 on the way to the 15-5 road win.
 
Gibson backed up MacGillivray with four goals and three assists for seven points. Marinello added three goals and a helper for four points, with Ashley Pringle (Barnegat/Barnegat) chipping in with a goal and two assists and Shyanne Nucifora (Lacey/Lacey Twp.) dishing a pair of assists.
 
Lilly Alessandro (Jenkintown, Pa./Abington) led the defense with six draw controls. MacGillivray and Margot Costello (South Brunswick/South Brunswick) tied for team-high honors with three caused turnovers each, with Costello topping the squad with four ground balls. Jordan Czaczkowski (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) made three saves in net for Stockton.
 
For the Cougars, Emilie Schultz and Skyler Ray scored two goals each. Drew Coyle had a game-high five caused turnovers, three draw controls and three ground balls. Goalkeeper Brooke Sztenderowicz made 10 saves in net and led all players with six ground balls.
 
Stockton will have a week off before returning home to face Rowan University next Saturday. Game time is scheduled for 12 pm.
