Wayne, N.J. - Stockton University (11-12, 1-4 NJAC) and William Paterson (16-9, 1-5 NJAC) played a doubleheader on Sunday in which each game was decided by just one run. The Ospreys took the first contest 6-5 but dropped a pitchers' duel 2-1 in the nightcap.

In the opener,
Joe Gmitter (Hamilton/Steinert) went 2-5 with a double and three RBI.
Michael Antonucci (Manasquan/Manasquan) tallied two hits, two runs, one RBI, one stolen base and one walk while
Robbie Ford (Green Twp./Newton) added two hits, one RBI, one stolen base and one walk.

Stockton jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI double by
Nick Avagnano (Paramus/Paramus) that scored Antonucci and an RBI single by Ford that scored Avagnano.

Tucker Elder (Ewing/Ewing) led off the second inning with a single that was his 100th career hit, and he later scored on an RBI single by Antonucci for a 3-0 advantage. William Paterson rallied with one run in the fifth inning and four in the sixth for a 5-3 lead.

The Ospreys loaded the bases in the seventh frame and then Gmitter cleared them with a clutch three-run double that vaulted Stockton ahead 6-5. The Pioneers got two runners aboard with one out in the bottom of the ninth, but the Ospreys kept WPU from scoring and prevailed by one.

Chris Gonzalez (Hazlet/Raritan) pitched two-thirds of an inning out of the bullpen for his first win since 2022.
Reece Miller (Toms River/TR East) shut down the Pioneers with three scoreless innings, allowing three hits with four strikeouts for his 15th career save, which is one off the school record.

Jordan Nitti (Hamilton/Steinert) went 2-4 with a double for two of Stockton's three hits in the nightcap, which was scoreless into the top of the sixth. Antonucci led off that inning with walk, advanced to second on a single by Nitti and later scored on an RBI single by Gmitter for a 1-0 lead.

William Paterson pulled ahead 2-1 with two runs in the bottom of the eighth and the Ospreys were unable to mount a rally in the ninth inning. Stockton starter
Zack McCabe (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) went six scoreless innings and struck out eight while allowing three hits, but he was not involved in the decision.

Jordan Brown paced WPU with five hits, two runs and one RBI in the doubleheader. Austin Jack hit a three-run homer in the first game.

Stockton is slated to host #16 Rowan University in a makeup game tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.
