Glassboro, N.J. - Stockton University (15-11, 3-5 NJAC) took a swing at knocking off unbeaten Rowan University (30-0, 8-0 NJAC), which is ranked second in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll, but the Ospreys came up just short by scores of 1-0 and 3-0.
Â
Emily Spencer (Southampton/Seneca) reached a milestone with the 100th hit of her four-year college career, which encompasses two seasons at Monmouth University and two seasons at Stockton.
Â
Nerina Tramp (Blackwood/Highland) pitched a four-hitter with two strikeouts and two walks in the opener, but an unearned run in the third inning proved to be the difference in the 1-0 setback.
Â
A double by
Charli Czaczkowski (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) in the top of the first was the lone hit for Stockton off Rowan pitcher Rylee Lutz.
Â
Spencer went 2-3 in the nightcap with a double in the fourth inning and an infield single in the top of the seventh that was hit number 100 for the shortstop.
Megan Sears (Oakland/Indian Hills) and
Emma Coldsnow (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) each reached base twice on one single and one hit by pitch apiece.
Â
Rowan scored once in the second inning and twice more in the sixth frame for the 3-0 final. Despite the result, Stockton pitchers
Lexi Liquori (Union/Union) and
Mia Barone (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) produced solid performances in the game.
Â
Liquori allowed one run in two innings while Barone pitched three scoreless innings before yielding two runs in the sixth as the duo held a Rowan squad that is averaging 7.0 runs per game to just three.
Â
Stockton will be on the road again on Saturday for an NJAC doubleheader at William Paterson that begins at noon.
