Lancaster, PA – Stockton University (1-0) came from behind in the season opener for both teams to claim a 2-1 victory on Friday night over Franklin & Marshall (0-1).  The Diplomats are ranked #22 nationally by the United Soccer Coaches to start the season.
William Lynch (Bensalem, PA/Notre Dame) and
Ernst Louisius (Asbury Park/Neptune) scored the goals for the Ospreys.
Â
After a scoreless first half, the Diplomats struck first on a penalty kick 3:39 into the final stanza. Stockton tallied the equalizer in the 55th minute when Louisius scored his fort of the year. A throw in found
Owen Sugra (Hainesport/Rancocas Valley), who passed to Louisius, who hit the low right corner for the 1-1 tie. It was Sugra's first carer point on the helper.
Â
With just over 27 minutes left to play in regulation, Kieran Sudermann (Little Egg Harbor/Pinelands) sent
Aiden Hoenisch (Bordentown/Notre Dame) in for a 2 on 1 with Lynch. The freshman found himself all alone on the left side and deposited his first career goal for the 2-1 lead. The tally turned out to be the game winning marker as well.
Â
Brady Bartletta (Hainesport/Rancocas Valley) made the one goal margin stand up, with a four save effort, including a point blank stop at the 12:23 mark.
Â
Stockton will have a quick turnaround when they return home to face #6 Denison at G. Larry James Stadium on Sunday morning. Game time is scheduled for 11 am.
