Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (1-1) staged a furious rally in the second half but came up on the short end of a 1-0 decision to Denison University (2-0) on Sunday afternoon in the home opener for Stockton. The Big Red are ranked #6 by United Soccer Coaches and was the second straight game for the Ospreys against a nationally ranked opponent.

The match was scoreless until the 16:44 mark when Denison's Miles Crosser blasted a shot to the upper left corner from just under 40 yards out for the 1-0 advantage. The score would remain through the rest of the half as Stockton was able to get just two attempts on net.

The Ospreys turned up the heat during the final 45 minutes outshooting their opponents by a 7-2 margin with three chances on net. Stockton fired off five shots in a span of 11 minutes, the best coming from
Aiden Hoenisch (Bordentown/Notre Dame).

In the 74th minute his shot was kicked away by Alex Provost, then after a foul in the box a minute later, his penalty kick was also stymied by Provost, preserving the one goal margin. That would be the last of the scoring as Denison came away with the one goal victory.

Ernst Louisius (Asbury Park/Neptune) and Hoenisch had five of the Ospreys' 11 shots, with Hoenisch leading the team with a pair on net.

Brady Bartletta (Hainesport/Rancocas Valley) made four saves in the match while Provost stopped five Stockton attempts.

Stockton will take to the road for their next two matches, beginning Wednesday night, when the Ospreys travel to Center Valley, PA to face DeSales University. Game time is scheduled for 4 pm.
