Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (2-3) continued its difficult early-season schedule with a 3-1 setback to Bryn Mawr (2-2), which was nationally ranked for the entire 2024 season and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament last year.
Kirsten Bailey (Burlington/Burlington Twp.) scored her second goal of the season and 33rd of her career for the Ospreys late in the game.
Stockton fell behind 1-0 in the first five minutes but nearly tied the contest on its first shot attempt.
Riley DeMarco (Hammonton/Cedar Creek) found some open space and fired a blast that was turned away by Bryn Mawr goaltender Charlene Basque with a blocker save.
The one-goal margin remained until early in the third quarter when the Owls scored on a penalty corner. The Ospreys generated three penalty corners and three shots on goal late in the period, but Basque denied all three tries.
Bryn Mawr tacked on another goal in the fourth quarter before Stockton averted the shutout in the final minute. On a penalty corner, Bailey took a feed from
Maura Somers (Berlin/Eastern Regional) and slapped a shot home from the left side with 59 seconds remaining. Somers notched her team-leading third assist of the season on the play.
Stockton goalie
Erika Roura (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) made five saves in the 3-1 setback. Basque finished with six stops and Leya Patel tallied two goals and an assist for Bryn Mawr.
Stockton will be home again on Saturday to face University of Scranton at 2:00 p.m.
