Kutztown, Pa. – Stockton University finished fifth in the Kutztown University DII/III Challenge on Saturday morning. The Ospreys were one of just two NCAA Division III teams in the field of eight, joining DeSales University, which placed seventh.
 
Maddy Valasek (Medford/Shawnee) led Stockton with a top-10 finish out of 83 runners in the race. Valasek placed 10th overall with a time of 23:43.20 for six kilometers.
 
Evelynn Austin (Sparta/Pope John XXIII) was the next Stockton finisher, placing 27th with a time of 24:48.40.
 
Kayla Kass (Bayonne/Bayonne) crossed the finish line seven seconds and two spots later in 29th place at the 24:55.60 mark.
 
Rachel Hayes (Marlboro/St. John Vianney) finished in 25:26.60 for 35th place.
 
Freshman Sophia Cornell (New Tripoli, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) completed Stockton's top five in 39th place with a time of 25:31.00.
 
Stockton will host the Osprey Open next Saturday, September 20 at 11:15 a.m.
