Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (5-4, 0-1 NJAC) began conference play with a 3-0 setback to Rowan University (9-4, 1-0 NJAC) at The Sports Center. The defeat snapped a three-match winning streak for the Ospreys.
Kate Louer (Clifton/Clifton) led Stockton with team highs of seven kills and 11 digs.
Nicole Palmer (Islip Terrace, N.Y./East Islip) added six kills.
Setters
Regan Mendick (Newark, Del./Red Lion Christian) and
Kristen Burton (Annapolis, Md./Archbishop Spalding) handed out 12 and eight assists respectively.
Lauren Sommer (York, Pa./Central York) chipped in with seven digs in the back row.
The first set went back and forth, with both teams making runs until a late 5-2 spurt by the Profs sealed Stockton's fate.
Olivia Magro (Brigantine/ACIT) spiked three kills but the Ospreys fell 25-21.
The middle frame featured five ties and four lead changes, but Stockton was unable to come out on top in a 25-20 setback despite four kills from Palmer.
In the third set, Stockton was within 14-11 until Rowan scored 10 unanswered points on the way to a 25-12 final.
Camille De La Torre (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) topped Stockton with three kills.
Jessica Smart paced Rowan with 19 kills on the night. Raven Albrecht totaled 33 assists, seven digs and four aces while Vanessa Hutchinson tallied 10 digs for the Profs.
Stockton will play three matches at the Swarthmore Invitational over the weekend, starting with a contest against the Garnet on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
