Swarthmore, Pa. – Stockton University (5-5) began its three-match stint at the Swarthmore Invitational with a 3-1 setback to the host Garnet (8-6). The Ospreys dropped the first set then evened the match by taking the second before falling in the third and fourth stanzas.
 
Kate Louer (Clifton/Clifton) and Nicole Palmer (Islip Terrace, N.Y./East Islip) combined for 35 of Stockton's 47 kills. Louer tallied 18 spikes, one off her career high, followed by Palmer with 17. Palmer added nine digs on the defensive side.
 
Regan Mendick (Newark, Del./Red Lion Christian) notched a double-double of 25 assists and 12 digs. Mendick also served three aces.
 
Helen Murray (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) paced the back row with 19 digs and Laila Newborn (Lower Merion, Pa./Lower Merion) contributed defensively with a match-high five blocks at the net.
 
Three of the four sets were close, with the Ospreys dropping the first and third frames 25-20 and 25-22 sandwiched around a 26-24 Stockton triumph in the second set. The Ospreys fell 25-14 in the fourth set.
 
Stockton returns to the Swarthmore Invitational tomorrow for matches against the University of Scranton at 12:30 p.m. and Suffolk University at 3:00 p.m.
