Stockton Opens NJAC Slate with 1-1 Tie

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (4-2-4, 0-0-1 NJAC) played shorthanded for the last 21 minutes but was able to forge a 1-1 tie with William Paterson University (5-3-1, 0-0-1 NJAC) on Saturday afternoon. Kylee Reissek (Newfield/Delsea) tallied the marker for the Ospreys. It was the NJAC season opener for both squads.

Reissek put the home team ahead at 30:02 when she found herself alone on the left side of the net. Her second goal of the season found the top right corner for the early lead.

In the second half, the Pioneers knotted the game in the 50th minute when Janie Henderson blasted a free kick from over 45 yards off the outstretched hand of Tori Vliet (Marmora/Ocean City) to pull the match into a 1-1 tie.

In the 71st minute, the Ospreys found themselves down a player due to a red card, but the home team rallied firing off six shots in the final minutes, three on net, but could not break the deadlock as the match ended in the 1-1 draw.

Vliet made two saves for Stockton while Sarah Mantilla stopped seven Osprey attempts for the Pioneers. The 1-1 draw extended the Ospreys unbeaten streak to three.

Stockton will travel to Ewing, NJ to face The College of New Jersey for their next match on Wednesday night. Game time is scheduled for 6 pm.
