Montclair, N.J. – Stockton University (7-7, 4-3 NJAC) stayed close during the first half before ultimately falling 77-43 to Montclair State (10-4, 6-1 NJAC), who is in second place in the conference. The Ospreys were hampered by a scoring slump in the second half.
Grace Speer (Estell Manor/ACIT) topped Stockton with a season-high 16 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
Bre Evans (Neptune/Neptune) scored six points followed by
Lauren Winant (Middletown/Middletown South) with five markers.
The Ospreys were strong on the glass, outrebounding Montclair 43-29. In addition to Speer's nine boards,
Zemirah Enalls (Barnegat/Barnegat) grabbed six caroms and
Haleigh Schafer (Egg Harbor City/Absegami) added five rebounds.
Bolstered by five points apiece from Speer and Evans, Stockton was within 16-12 after one quarter. The Ospreys briefly took a 19-18 lead on a layup by Evans in the second period. They shot 50% (7-14) in the quarter but trailed 36-28 at halftime.
Points proved hard to come by in the second half as Stockton went just 4-27 (14.8%) from the field and managed only 15 points in the last two quarters on the way to the 77-43 setback.
Alexis Strollo and Alyssa Craigwell paced Montclair with 17 and 16 points respectively.
Stockton will host Rowan University on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
