Stockton Surges Past Rowan 55-43

Galloway, NJ. - Stockton University (8-7, 5-3 NJAC) used a massive 15-2 run in the third quarter and downed Rowan University (8-7, 4-4 NJAC) 55-43 on Wednesday night. Freshman Bre Evans topped the Ospreys with 19 points, with fellow frosh Zemirah Enalls (Barnegat/Barnegat) adding her fifth double-double of the season with 10 points and a game-high 19 rebounds.
 
Rowan jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead to start the game before Stockton responded. The Profs ended the quarter leading 10-7, with Evans scoring three of the markers for the Ospreys.
 
The contest got closer in period two with the teams knotted at 14 all, when Rowan ran off six straight points. Stockton answered with five points, led by Evans with four more markers, to close within one at 20-19, but the visitors were able to take a 25-21 lead into the break.
 
The third stanza was the deciding point in the game, as Stockton rattled off 15 straight points coming out of halftime, not allowing a point until 18 seconds left in the quarter for a 36-27 lead after three quarters. The Stockton defense held Rowan to just 1-16 (6.3%) shooting in the frame. Evans tallied eight points with Enalls grabbing eight boards during the run.
 
Stockton put the game away in the final period, outscoring the Profs 19-16 to set the final score at 55-43 in favor of the Ospreys.
 
Imene Fathi (Wildwood/Wildwood) added 12 points and a pair of assists, with Grace Speer (Estell Manor/ACIT) pulling down eight caroms, as Stockton held a 48-36 advantage on the glass. Evans shot 7-13 (.538) for the game and chipped in with two assists and two steals. Enalls had 10 offensive rebounds, and it was the third time this season she has had 19 or more boards.
 
For Rowan, Haley Selmer was the only player in double figures with 10 points and led the squad with nine rebounds.
 
Stockton will travel to Mahwah, NJ on Saturday for their next game against Ramapo College. Tip-off is set for 3 pm.
