Staten Island, N.Y. – Stockton University competed for the first time in over a month as the Ospreys participated in the Gotham Cup at Ocean Breeze. Two runner-up finishes and one school record were the biggest highlights for Stockton on the day.
Elaina Styer (Estell Manor/Ocean City) broke her own school record and cracked the nine-second mark in the 60m for the first time in her career by running 8.93 seconds for second place out of 28 competitors. Styer also finished fourth out of 19 in the high jump (1.60m).
Three Ospreys recorded strong results in the pole vault, led by
Eva Morrison (Northfield/Mainland), who was the runner-up out of 12 vaulters (3.40m). Teammates
Sydney Rick (Pennington/Hopewell Valley) and freshman
Megan Morris (Pennsville/Pennsville) tied for fifth place (2.95m).
Emma Conroy (Matawan/Matawan),
Emma Petrolia (New Milford/New Milford),
Marlie DiPalma (Hackettstown/Pope John XXIII) and
Kayla Kass (Bayonne/Bayonne) finished third out of 14 teams in the 4x400 relay (4:06.18). Petrolia also was 11th out of 27 in the 500m (1:19.30).
Natalia Swanson (Glassboro/Delsea) placed fifth out of 17 sprinters in the 60m (8.49 seconds). Freshman
Marie Torode (Succasunna/Roxbury) finished 10th out of 36 in the weight throw (12.96m) and
Jessica Bentley (Forked River/Lacey Twp.) was 15th out of 40 in the shot put (10.86m).
Next weekend, Stockton will compete in the Liberty University (Va.) Open and the Moravian Hounds Indoor Classic.
