Stockton Downed by Virginia Wesleyan 75-61

Virginia Beach, VA. - Stockton University (6-5) traveled to Virginia Beach for their first action in 18 days but fell to Virginia Wesleyan (7-4) 75-61 in a non-conference matchup. Freshman Bre Evans (Neptune/Neptune) led the Ospreys with 15 points on the day.
 
The Marlins jumped out to a 19-12 lead after one quarter, as they shot 64.3% (9-14) during the frame. Wesleyan stretched the margin to 10 at 32-22 at the break, holding the Ospreys to just 25% (3-12) shooting during the second stanza.
 
The pace picked up in the third period with Stockton tallying 16 points on 50% (7-14) shooting but could not hold the Marlins down. Evans and fellow frosh Riley Fitzpatrick (Barnegat/Barnegat) scored six and five points, respectively. The home team shot 10-16 (62.5%) in expanding the lead to 56-38 heading into the final quarter.
 
Stockton outscored the Marlins 23-19 but could not overcome the home squad in the 75-61 final.
 
Fitzpatrick was the only other Osprey in double figures with a career-high 14 markers, with freshman Zemirah Enalls (Barnegat/Barnegat) grabbing 11 rebounds, six on the offensive glass.
 
For Virginia Wesleyan, Brianna Long scored a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds, both game highs. Teammates Maesyn Blaylock and Keira Bagwell added 10 points each.
 
Stockton will finish their two-game Virginia trip with a match against Christopher Newport in Newport News, VA tomorrow. Tip off is set for 2 pm.
