Newport News, VA. - Stockton University (6-6) finished their post-holiday trip to Virginia on a down note, as Christopher Newport (13-3) subdued the Ospreys 67-46 on Saturday afternoon. Freshman
Zemirah Enalls (Barnegat/Barnegat) led the Ospreys with 14 points and a career and game-high 19 rebounds. The Captains are also in the receiving votes rankings by d3hoops.com.
Stockton took its only lead of the game when Enalls opened the scoring with her first career three-point basket 24 seconds into the contest for 3-0 lead. From there it was all Captains as the home team outscored Stockton in every quarter after.
The home team expanded the lead to 35-22 at the half with a 19-10 second period. The Ospreys fought to get closer with a 15-point third period, led by Enalls with six points and four boards, but the Captains stretched the margin to 54-37 after three quarters. The home squad finished up the game with a 13-9 final period to set the score in favor of Christopher Newport 67-46.
Enalls grabbed 13 of her rebounds off the offensive glass and was aided by
ChiChi Wokocha (Galloway/Absegami) who pulled down 11 rebounds. Stockton held a massive 54-38 advantage on the glass.
Riley Fitzpatrick (Barnegat/Barnegat) and
Imene Fathi (Wildwood/Wildwood) chipped in with eight and seven points, respectively, with Fathi tying for game-high with three steals.
For Christopher Newport, Mia Wilson topped all players with 17 points, with Madison McKenzie adding 11 markers. Hailey Kellogg dished a game-high six assists.
Stockton will return home to NJAC play when the Ospreys will face Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday afternoon at the Sports Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
