Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (7-6, 4-2 NJAC) survived a late rally by Rutgers-Camden (6-5, 1-4 NJAC) for a tight 78-73 victory on Wednesday night. The Ospreys had six players reach double figures, led by
Tayvon Gaither (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) with 17 points.
The home team led comfortably through the first half, leading by as many as 12 points, before settling for a 40-31 halftime margin. Gaither scored 12 of his markers during the first 20 minutes of play.
The Ospreys kept the pressure on through the second half upping the advantage to 64-46 on five straight points by
Charlie Bell (Miami, FL/Florida Christian). Stockton held the double-digit margin until the 5:23 mark when the Scarlet Raptors made their charge.
With the score 71-63 in favor of Stockton, the visitors posted an 8-3 run to close within three at 74-71 with 1:02 remaining in regulation. Rutgers-Camden closed to three points again at 76-73 with just 19 ticks left, but two foul shots by
Andrew Crawford (Haddon Heights/Camden Catholic) sealed the 78-73 victory.
In addition to Gaither, who shot 7-10 (70.0%) from the field, Crawford tied his career-high with 15 points and dished a game high six assists.
Justin Harper (Bridgeton/Wildwood Catholic) and
Devon Johnson (Pine Hill/Overbrook) chipped in with 11 markers each. Bell and
Logan Mckee (Glen Mills/Phelps School) added 10 points apiece with Bell grabbing a career and game-high 10 rebounds.
For the Scarlet Raptors, Eric Benjamin and Cameron Downs scored 25 and 24 points, respectively.
Stockton will travel to Montclair, NJ on Saturday to face Montclair State for their next matchup. Game time is set for 1 pm.
