Auburndale, FL – Stockton University (4-5) finished their Florida trip on a down note as the Ospreys fell to UMass-Boston (3-4) by a score of 21-5 in seven innings on Saturday afternoon.
The Beacons wasted no time in putting up runs, scoring twice in the first, four markers in the second inning and five more in the third for a commanding 11-0 lead. UMass plated five more runs before Stockton broke through in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Matthew McCloskey (Cinnaminson/Cinnaminson) scored on a wild pitch, the
Jimmy Casey (Newtown, PA/Archbishop Wood) plated fellow rookie
Connor Dunn (Langhorne, PA/Notre Dame) for two runs.
The next inning, Dunn reached on an error, but McCloskey and
Russell Halvorsen (Howell/Howell) scored to give Stockton two more markers.
The Beacons scored six more times over the final three innings, before Casey scored on a balk to close out the scoring.
Stockton used seven pitchers in the game, the most effective being
Dane Jorgensen (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) who tossed a scoreless inning in relief.
Stockton, who fashioned a 4-3 record on the trip, will return home to face Penn College in Galloway on Wednesday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
