Salisbury, Md. – Stockton University (4-0) began its six-game weekend in Maryland with a 3-2 walkoff victory over New Paltz (2-3) and a 9-0 shutout of NYU (4-4) in five innings. Osprey pitchers allowed a total of just six hits on the day.
Caitlin Cetrulo (Caldwell/Caldwell) rapped two doubles and drove in two runs against New Paltz.
McKenna George (Centennial, Colo/Eaglecrest) added two hits, one run, one RBI and one stolen base.
The Ospreys trailed 2-0 entering the bottom of the fifth. George made it 2-1 with an RBI single and then scored the tying run on an RBI double by Cetrulo.
Emily Clauss (Delanco/BCIT) drew a one-out walk in the bottom of the seventh and was replaced by pinch runner
Caitlin Lynch (Manchester/Manchester Twp.). A bunt single by George moved Lynch to second base and then a walkoff double by Cetrulo scored Lynch with the winning run in the 3-2 triumph.
Casey Sokol (Lansdale/North Penn) allowed just one earned run and four hits with four strikeouts to earn the pitching victory.
Emma Coldsnow (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) led the way against NYU with three hits, three runs and two RBI. Sokol and
Alexa Panagopoylos (Atco/Hammonton) each added two hits and two RBI while George and Cetrulo contributed two hits and two runs apiece.
Stockton scored twice in the first inning, four times in the third frame and three more in the fourth for the 9-0 run-rule victory.
Elizabeth Martin (Port Republic/Cedar Creek) pitched a two-hitter with four strikeouts and faced just four batters over the minimum in recording her first career shutout.
On Saturday, Stockton will face Lynchburg at 11:00 a.m. and King's College at 1:30 p.m.
