Stockton Improves to 8-0 With Two Wins

Salisbury, Md. – Stockton University (8-0) continued its best start to a season in 13 years with a 4-2 win over #24 Randolph Macon (9-6) and an 11-3 victory over Carnegie Mellon (9-5) in six innings. The Ospreys improved to 8-0 for the first time since a 12-0 start in 2013.

Caitlin Cetrulo (Caldwell/Caldwell) ripped an RBI triple and scored in the first inning to spark the Ospreys to a 2-0 lead. An RBI groundout by Emily Clauss (Delanco/BCIT) in the second frame made it 3-0.

After Randolph Macon got on the board with a run in the top of the fourth, a sacrifice fly by Alexa Panagopoylos (Atco/Hammonton) in the bottom half regained a three-run cushion at 4-1. In the seventh inning, the Yellow Jackets scored once and got the tying run on base before a flyout ended the 4-2 triumph.

Casey Sokol (Lansdale/North Penn) pitched a complete game and upped her record to 3-0 on the season with the win.

Aubrey Jeffers (Lumberton/Rancocas Valley), Emma Coldsnow (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) and McKenna George (Centennial, Colo./Eaglecrest) accounted for nine of Stockton's 14 hits against Carnegie Mellon with three apiece.

Stockton spotted the Tartans three runs in the first inning before exploding for eight runs in the third stanza. Cassie Stallwood (Flemington/Hunterdon Central) stroked a two-run single while Coldsnow, George and Regan Mendick (Newark, Del./Red Lion Christian) also added RBI hits.

The Ospreys tacked on one run in the fifth inning and two in the sixth for the 11-3 victory. Lexi Liquori (Union/Union) pitched five scoreless innings out of bullpen, allowing four hits and fanning four batters for her first win of the season.

Stockton is scheduled to host Immaculata in a doubleheader on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
