Chestertown, Md. – Stockton University (6-2) scored two late goals to tie, but the Ospreys were edged by Washington College (6-2) 10-9 in overtime. Stockton nearly found a way to steal a victory despite never leading in regulation.
Alex DeLierre (Bridgewater/Bridgewater-Raritan) and
Colin Wagner (Birdsboro, Pa./Daniel Boone) led the Ospreys with three goals apiece.
Calen Reid (Oak Ridge/Jefferson Twp.) chipped in with a goal and two assists.
Stockton fell behind 4-0 before responding with a 5-1 run to even the game at 5-5. Wagner led the comeback with two goals. Washington then scored three straight markers, and the Ospreys faced an 8-5 deficit midway through the third quarter.
Stockton later trailed 9-6 with six minutes left in regulation before staging a late rally. DeLierre made it 9-7 followed by goals from Wagner and Reid just 18 seconds apart to forge a 9-9 tie with 1:59 on the clock. The Ospreys nearly netted the game-winner in the final seconds, but the last-second shot was slightly off the mark.
The teams combined for three turnovers on the first three possessions of overtime. Stockton then was flagged for a penalty and the Shoremen capitalized with the extra man to down the Ospreys 10-9.
Cole Blum (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) won 17 of 22 faceoffs and snagged a game-high seven ground balls.
Shane Phillips (Springfield, Pa./Springfield Delco) contributed defensively, tying for game high with three caused turnovers and adding three ground balls.
Nate Winters paced Washington with a game-high four goals and goalkeeper Keegan Dunn stymied the Ospreys with 14 saves.
After two straight road games, Stockton returns home to host Messiah University on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
