Allentown, PA – Stockton University (11-1) saw their 10-game winning streak snapped but rebounded for a split of a doubleheader against Muhlenberg College (13-3) on Saturday afternoon. The Mules took game one 8-1, before Stockton captured the nightcap 3-2.
Alexa Panagopoylos (Atco/Hammonton) had three of Stockton's seven hits on the day with a run scored. The Ospreys' 10-game winning streak to start the season was the most since 2013.
In game one, Stockton was held to just three hits in suffering their first loss of the season. The Ospreys scored their lone run in the third inning. After
McKenna George (Centennial, Colo/Eaglecrest) reached on an error,
Caitlin Cetrulo (Caldwell/Caldwell) plated her with a triple, but that was all Stockton could muster in the 8-1 defeat.
Sophomore
Emily McGinn (Blackwood/Gloucester Catholic) saw her first action of the season pitching a scoreless 2/3 of an inning.
In the second tilt of the day. The Ospreys got on the board with single runs in the second and third frames for a 2-1 lead. A sacrifice fly by
Regan Mendick (Newark, DE/Red Lion Academy) and another RBI by Cetrulo gave the Ospreys the advantage.
Stockton scored what would be an important insurance run in the top of the sixth inning. Panagopoylos walked, and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. She came around to score when freshman
Emily Clauss (Delanco/BCIT) reached on an error that allowed Panagopoylos to score for a 3-1 lead.
The Mules threatened in the bottom of the seventh, scoring one marker, but
Elizabeth Martin (Port Republic/Cedar Creek) shut the door, and the Ospreys came away with the 3-2 win. Martin remained unbeaten in the circle with her sixth win of the season and second complete game.
Stockton will travel to Chester, PA on Tuesday for their next games. The Ospreys will play a doubleheader against Widener University with the first game at 4pm, and the nightcap scheduled for 6 pm.
