Middletown, Pa. – Stockton University (4-8) scored 13 runs and totaled 15 hits but absorbed a pair of defeats at 2025 NCAA Tournament qualifier Penn State Harrisburg (12-7) by scores of 8-4 and 12-9.
Jimmy Casey (Newtown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) led the Ospreys with five hits on the day.
Casey went 3-5 with a home run in the first game.
Max Kaplan (Wall/Wall) was 1-2 with two walks and a run scored.
Stockton led 2-1 after Kaplan scored on an error in the fourth inning, but Penn State Harrisburg plated three runs in the bottom of the fourth and two more in the fifth for a 6-2 count.
Matthew McCloskey (Cinnaminson/Cinnaminson) scored on a wild pitch in the sixth and Casey blasted a solo homer in the ninth for the 8-4 final score.
Casey tallied two hits, including a double, two runs and two RBI in the nightcap.
Nick Avagnano (Paramus/Paramus) slugged his second homer in three games and finished with three RBI and two runs. Kaplan contributed a hit and two RBI as well.
Avagnano hit a two-run blast in the first inning to give Stockton a quick 2-0 lead. Penn State Harrisburg responded with the next seven runs of the game. Kaplan made it 7-3 with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning.
Stockton tied it 7-7 with four runs on one hit, three hit by pitches and an error in the fifth stanza, but the Lions scored the next four runs of the game for an 11-7 count. Casey slapped a two-run singled in the eighth inning to get the Ospreys within 11-9, but they fell 12-9.
Stockton is slated to play its home opener tomorrow against Keystone College at 3:30 p.m.
