Haverford, Pa. – Stockton University (3-3) came up short against #20 Haverford College (4-1) in a 16-4 defeat. The game was Stockton's first of the season against a team that is ranked in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Association national poll.
The Fords found their rhythm quickly, scoring a goal in the first minute and they held control with six unanswered goals until the Ospreys'
Madison MacGillivray (Forked River/Lacey Twp.) put them on the board. The Fords contributed one more goal, going into the second period 7-1.
Stockton had a goalie change going into the second quarter, with freshman
Abbey Schaeffer (Rehoboth, Del./Cape Henlopen) entering and recording four saves in the quarter. MacGillivray scored her second goal of the game, but the Ospreys went into halftime down 12-2.
In the third quarter, MacGillivray completed a hat trick, her third straight, and Schaeffer tallied four more saves in goal during the period. Stockton's last goal came from
Aubrey Giordano (Mt. Olive/Mt. Olive) in the fourth quarter.
Maisy Mosier (Berlin/Eastern Regional) tied for game high in draw controls with four and collected three ground balls.
Gina Marotta (Montville/Montville) added three caused turnovers and three ground balls. Schaeffer finished with 11 saves and a .550 save percentage in three periods of playing time.
The Fords were led by Daniella Martini's four goals and three assists, while Sophia Jaffe scored four goals.
Stockton will look to bounce back at home on Wednesday versus St. Joseph's-Long Island at 1:00 p.m.
